Florida's Weather, Hurricanes and Tourist SeasonsFlorida weather is famous around the globe for its unusually sunny skies and balmy warmth nearly year-round. It is also well known for its hurricanes. Florida weather does produce seasons, but they are far less noticeable than in most other parts of the world. Florida weather boasts average annual temperatures between 80 and 82°F in the summer. In the winter, temperatures average about 68°F in south Florida and around 53°F in north Florida. The hurricane season lasts for an entire six months in Florida, from June 1st through November 30th.
Most visitors enjoy Florida's weather when it is mild, mostly in the spring and fall. Crowds are also smaller during this time, and prices are lower.
Florida Weather in the SummerFlorida summers are sizzling hot, and right in the middle of hurricane season. Some relief from the heat is provided by daily thunderstorms that cool the temperature a bit, but these storms come and go quite rapidly. Florida weather tends to be more moderate along the coasts where there is a gentle breeze, particularly on the Atlantic side.
The good news for tourists is that Florida is full of indoor air-conditioned attractions and accommodations for those mid-day scorchers. When the weather is somewhat cooler in the early morning and evening, you'll see spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Florida Weather in the FallFall is absolutely beautiful in Florida, but don't blink, because it's over in a flash. Brilliant autumn reds and golds rival those of New England's picturesque canvases, but they barely last long enough to take in.
Although fall is somewhat cooler than the summer Florida weather, it is still quite balmy and the temperatures aren't as mild as the spring until after Thanksgiving, and sometimes even later. The hurricane season is also a risk in autumn because it usually lasts through November.
Florida Weather in the WinterFlorida doesn't have a true winter if you define that as feeling cold temperatures and seeing snowflakes. Florida's winter weather usually sees only a few days below freezing, and then it's back to mild, sunny weather again. It is these mild winters that make Florida weather such an attractive destination for retirees.
During most of the winter season, lines are short with few crowds, making it a great time to visit. Try to stay away during the holiday season, though. During the holidays from mid-December to January, Florida is almost as crowded as the busy summer season.
Florida Weather in the SpringFor many tourists, spring is the ideal time to visit Florida. The weather is mild and the skies are consistently sunny, with the exception of a short rainy season. This time of year, Florida is particularly beautiful because the flowers are in full bloom.
